Pigment Pigments are plant compounds such as chlorophyll, flavonoids and carotenes that are soluble in ether. Pigment and glycerol are subtracted from EE to get TFAee. Oleic acid Oleic acid (C18:1C) is a long-chain mono-unsaturated fatty acid. It is an omega-9 fatty acid because it has a final carbon double bond in the ninth position. There is no scientific evidence that this treatment actually helps difficult mares but it’s worth discussing this option with your vet if all other treatments have failed – and it’s certainly less drastic than having the ovaries removed.

Niacin Niacin (vitamin B3, nicotinic acid) is required for coenzymes involved in energy production, redox reactions and cell division.

My mare Lace has been struggling with anxiety, which we believe derived from her hormones. It made showing or even just a trail ride extremely stressful for her and slowed down her progress immensely. I’ve found that Dodson & Horrell’s Stroppy Mare herbal mix has really improved her overall wellbeing and thankfully I now have a noticeably less anxious horse that seems far happier, even in stressful situations. At the recent Swan River CIC the difference in her demeanor, her attitude and her rideability was amazing and I finally got to have a decent warm up at a competition that didn’t stress her out too much. Thank you Dodson & Horrell for your product and Thompson and Redwood for supplying! Also thanks to my brilliant coaches Portland Jones and Sophie Warren for helping me find an easily sustainable solution for my horse’s health.” Feeding guidelines: Soluble Fiber Soluble fibers are easily digestible by the horse. They are broken down into sugars and absorbed from the gut. Care must be taken in the use of these products in competing mares as they may contain banned substances (such as valerian). But along with these traits comes her ability at dressage. She's moved up four levels in a year and she's become the darling of the judges - even though she is only 15h1 - which is nowadays unfashionable. But she is not going to grow. Show her something, ask her to do it and she'll perform.

A bespoke formulation for hormonal support would include calming herbs such as milk thistle and chamomile, and can be refined to reflect the mare’s response.

About The Stroppy Mare

The 8 year old very spoilt mare I ride for a friend has been out in the field pleasing herself for the past 3 months while I recovered from a knee injury. The last time we were together we both fell heavily after a bad jump (hence knee injury). So her last memory of 'us' isn't a particularly good one. In my riding career I have met up with and ridden two mares who have give me faithful service. It was with memories of them that I took on my Irish Huzzy - not realising that she was something different although perhaps I should have suspected something because she was sold as a 'project' horse.

It can be a long road to make her change her attitude because you are now competition. Meaning you are establishing your status as the Alpha and this little queenie doesn't like the challenge. I have owned DiDi for four years. During which time I have tried to mould her to my needs. I’ve got nowhere really. She simply doesn’t want to go pub hunting. She wants to dance in a dressage arena just like she does with the young female friend of ours who competes on her in the arena. So, she’s won me round. She has played me along. She’s got her way. Cobalt Cobalt is reqired to make vitamin B12 (cobalamin). In horses, cobalt is converted to Vitamin B12 by the hindgut microflora. If that's all she can handle before a fight break out, stop. At least you stopped on a common ground. To her it means like you're saying:"Ok, you don't like it, I'll stop here but I'm the alpha so let's not fight & compromise". Phenylalanine Phenylalanine is the third-most abundant amino acid in equine diets. It is important for neurotransmitter synthesis. Hormonal imbalances in horses can lead to various health challenges, ranging from subpar coat conditions to fertility issues. Nutritional supplements are a valuable tool in supporting balanced hormone levels and enhancing overall health. My mare Ariel was Queen of the pasture for 8yrs before I got her. She was bought as a young trillium horse for this young/green rider who was so intimidated by Ariel that, that's how she became a lawn ornement until found by a lady who runs a riding school. But a year passed & they still had done nothing with her until I found her. I had been riding her for 8 months and had only just started to win her over, though she would still act up now and again.

Myristic acid Myristic acid (C14:0) is a saturated fatty acid that is found in plant and animal fats. It has a chemical structure of 14 carbon atoms with no double bonds. Chloride Chloride is an electrolyte and is important for the transmission of nerve impulses. It is found in salt (sodium chloride). Menadione (Vitamin K3) Vitamin K is a cofactor for enzymes involved in blood clotting. It also supports healthy blood vessels and bone health.

I just think she has no respect for you (hence the double barreling and planting her feet... she would NOT do that for the herd leader. Maybe she has no respect for people, until they give her a reason to respect them. Palmitoleic acid Palmitoleic acid (C16:1) is a monounsaturated fatty acid found in plants and animals. It has a 16 carbon atom structure with a single double bond in the ninth position.
