Sony has always made very ergonomically designed physical controls for all of their electronics and the XAV AX1000 is no exception.Had to get a replacement for my Double DIN Pioneer head unit in the motorhome, which had failed after about 7 years and had cost a fortune when installed and as I was in rush to get a new unit fitted before a trip. I ended up getting this ‘lower end’ Sony unit as it was the only one available. I’m so glad I did, as I discovered the hidden benefits of still having a physical HOME button and also volume control, so no need to tap screens etc for volume and screen changes - excellent when on the move! So far it an affordable and good looking way to upgrade an older car with some modern tech. I’ll update this review if I feel differently after using it for awhile.

It’s not every day that you see Active Matrix screens being used in digital media receivers for vehicles, but the folks at Sony really feel strongly about providing the highest video fidelity and accurate color representation while still offering a fantastic touchscreen experience.
Bluetooth wireless connectivity also opens up the opportunity to control and command your device through the Sony platform. Unfortunately, as of right now there’s no way to utilize Carplay or Android Auto over the Bluetooth wireless protocol. Not only does it offer a beautiful and cutting-edge touchscreen with all the “creature features” you’d expect from top-tier technology, but it does so at a very affordable price tag. Only a few small bells and whistles are missing from the Sony XAV AX1000 that you find on much higher end (and much more expensive) units, and all in all the Sony XAV AX1000 doesn’t cut corners to cut costs.I recommend it 100%, it transforms my old car into a techy car that I’m always excited to drive now. It impresses people when they get into your car. Just like pretty much every other modern digital media receiver worth purchasing these days the Sony XAV AX1000 includes support for both Apple Carplay and Android Auto. a>
