In the absence of making antiracist choices, we (un)consciously uphold aspects of white supremacy, white-dominant culture, and unequal institutions and society. I loved the idea that we are all stories made up of many things, not just our race, but also our family history, our likes and dislikes, where and when we were born, our religion, and more and more things. He mentions that sometimes people think they are better than someone because of how much money their parents make or the size of their house. Racism, racial injustice and racial inequalities exist in our everyday lives and in wider society; they also exist within higher education and within our University.

Even though he is emphasizing race is not all there is to his identity, focus upon it instead of the other aspects of his story, makes it a BIG DEAL.Let’s Talk Race confronts why white people struggle to talk about race, why we need to own this problem, and how we can learn to do the work ourselves and stop expecting Black people to do it for us. His most recent picture book, Let's Talk About Race , was named to the New York Public Library's "One Hundred Titles for Reading and Sharing. If enough of these stories are told, then perhaps we will begin to see that our lives are the same story. We understand that this is a first step in moving towards a more inclusive and welcoming space for all of our members and intend this initiative to open up a conversation that will be difficult and challenging but can enact real change throughout our College community, the University of Cambridge and society at large.

We've devised a learning pathway to help you get started, build facilitation skills, and create conversation guides to hold your own circles of dialog. What a great way to talk about race, or any aspect of a person that makes them feel better than someone else. Therefore, whether you are an educator, a student, leader or an individual working within the higher education sector or elsewhere – investing in your own self-education, learning how to converse and exchange thoughts on anti-racism, inclusion and equity is critical.

It discusses race as well as superiority and the feelings involved with being put down based on race. We work with our network of private and public sector partners to offer tailored practical advice and share new insights to drive long-term change.Lester's poignant picture book helps children learn, grow, discuss, and begin to create a future that resolves differences. As Julius Lester points out, it is only when we allow ourselves to delve deeper into each other's character, asking questions about mutual likes and dislikes, about where we were born and the pictures formed by our own personal histories, that we can begin to truly know each other and bridge the illusory gaps that seem to separate us. Inspired by this initiative, three Wolfson students, Annoa, Raquel and Megan, created a podcast, Shade in Cambridge. Black people in particular (and disproportionately), along with indigenous, biracial and people of colour – who are the global majority – have spent more than 400 years enduring the impacts of racism, inequity, being minoritised, being racialised and being excluded while having their cultures, efforts, knowledge, wealth, food and practices being appropriated and co-opted for the benefit of Whiteness and White society around the world. Lester then asks the child to define and acknowledge his or her race, while also understanding that race is complicated because people have used/use race to prove that they are better than another.

This text can build knowledge on diversity because it explains that at lot of people judge others based on their race and skin color and this book lets children know that you shouldn't judge someone based on their race and skin color.
